“I think the main misconception — although I’m not even sure if it’s truly a misconception or just an exaggeration — is about how corrupt business is in Africa. There’s corruption everywhere, and no special brand of corruption is exclusive to Africa. In fact, the higher the risk, the higher the reward, and Africa is a prime example. My personal pet peeve is when people treat Africa as if it were a single country, forgetting that it’s actually 54 nations with multiple languages, cultures, and business styles.” — Akaego (2025)

Another major issue is logistics and transportation — moving people and goods across the continent. Today, while a private jet from Lagos to Botswana may take six hours, commercial travel takes 17 hours due to the lack of direct flights. Projects like the Lobito Corridor — a rail link connecting Angola, Zambia, and Tanzania — are promising steps forward. Ultimately, I believe no one is coming to save us; Africa must be built by Africans, with improved infrastructure and stronger trade relations ensuring inclusive growth for everyone.” — Akaego (2025)
