Schizophrenia is a chronic psychiatric disorder that sadly has no cure; thus, a patient is subjected to lifelong use of medications and/or psychosocial therapy. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that over 20 million people suffer from the illness worldwide1. Asides from the burden of an incurable disease, sufferers are faced with the added pain of stigma and discrimination. It is little wonder why Sis, my guest on this episode, has chosen to remain anonymous. Sis and I met five years ago on FIN, and we connected after a post I made sharing my struggles with depression and anxiety. (For more about that story, click HERE).

Sis was a guest on the show two years ago when she talked at length about the antithesis of her battle with schizophrenia and the complexities of her case, including the voices in her head, which are so distinct that they have names and unique characteristics attached to them.
